I solved this after a couple of days by deactivating usb power management in the device manager. To install non-free firmware, (assumes contrib non-free has been added to sources): apt-get update apt-get install firmware-linux firmware-linux-free firmware-linux-nonfree. include include include af9015.h include af9013.h include mt2060.h include qt1010.h include tda18271.h.
I had a simular (?) problem with a wlan adapter making the machine freeze after a while. I tried the original supplied driver from afatech (chipset of the stick is afatech af9015) version 6.9.28.1 and the latest driver from the afatech site (7.7.4.1). But: Everytime (ok - not everytime but in 9 of 10 cases) i disable the playback of life tv the machine freezes. We use smaller - about 1/4 from the original, 5 and 87. If i use media center (or the software supplied with the stick called "TotalMedia") everything seems to work well. define AF9015FIRMWARE 'dvb-usb-af9015.fw' / Windows driver uses packet count 21 for USB1.1 and 348 for USB2.0. I discovered a couple of problems with usb devices. Gigabyte G35 board, Q6600, 8 GByte RAM, Vista Home Premium å4. I used it on my old xp computer without problems. I simply replaced a device id in af9015.

Unfortunately the device id is not supported by this driver up to now. The stick was sold as "certified for windows vista". This DVB-T USB device uses also the AF9015 chip set. I have a dvb-t usb stick for receiving terrestial tv.
